I firmly believe that there are 4 keys to health: Physical, Emotional, Mental, and Spiritual. *** Please have patience, this page is "under improvement" *** Our physical bodies are very dependent on how we treat them. Most of us do not eat right, drink enough water, and we definitely don't have time, energy or motivation to exercise. These are 3 very important things to our physical health. Water is incredibly important to our health. Our bodies are made up of mostly water. Water helps to flush our cells and organs of impurities, and water helps to keep our blood circulating. Unfortunately, most of us don't drink near enough water. Further, our tap water is full of additives and impurities (chlorine, fluoride, etc), however, better than no water at all! I would definitely recommend some sort of filtering if you drink tap water. Distilled water has had it's life force energy removed, but better than no water at all. Bottled water is good, depending on the brand (some brands are nothing more than tap water, and I leave you to read labels and do your own research here), but definitely don't freeze it, as the impurities from the plastic can leach into the water. Water is especially important in the hot months. But do be aware that if your body is already hot or overheated, that it does not assimilate water well, and you are better off drinking a "sports" drink containing electrolytes and potassium. We are very much what we eat. We are filling our body with additives and preservatives from the food we eat, while we are not getting the nutrition that we need from our food. Bottom line: Our processed foods are not good for us! We are growing our plant-based foods using pesticides and herbicides and artificial fertilizers, which means that we are EATING these things in our plant-based foods! Our "meats" are grown using growth hormones and steroids, which means (you guessed it!) we are EATING these things in our meat-based foods. This is most likely one of the major reasons why today's children are reaching puberty at such an early age (ie. 8 year-old girls are developing breasts!) Not to mention that the manner in which cattle, for example, is killed is not very humane, sending adrenaline coursing through their bodies before they die. This is all before our food industries start processing these foods into frozen meals, boxed meals, etc. The food industry first "processes" most, if not all, of the nutrients (if there are any!) out of the food. Then they add 10's of 1,000's of chemicals to this "food", ranging from coloring (to make it "look" like we expect it to look) to preservatives (giving it a longer shelf life). One of the best books on this subject is Kevin Trudeau's Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You to Know About, which is as much as expose of the food and pharmaceutical industries and the FDA, as well as about "natural" cures.
Skin: The largest and most absorbent organ in (on!) the human body. Think about this, if it has never occurred to you: Everything that is in contact with our skin (Lotions, make-up, dust, dirt around your home, the cleaners that you use around the house, detergents from our clothing to our bedsheets) is absorbed THROUGH our skin and into our blood stream. Our medical community is aware of this. Therefore we have "patches" for many things now: Quitting smokin, Birth control, etc. Let's face it, our kidneys and livers (which are responsible for cleaning out the impurities in our bodies) are working overtime, here! So as an aside (and definitely a plug!) I do sell Shaklee products, as well. And lastly, exercise is also important. And no, it does NOT have to be weight-lifting, or any kind of strenuous activity, but make time for simple stretches, at the least, if not Tai Chi, Yoga, walking, or some other form of mild exercise.
Mental and Emotional Health: At a later point, I may try to separate these two states of being, but for the moment, I consider them intertwined, as are my thoughts about them. So for the time being, I will address them together. Mental health (and I'm not talking about psychoses and neuroses, here -- just the everyday, "normal" people walking around carrying on with their "normal" lives) has to do with thoughts, and emotional health has to to with feelings. The reason they are so intertwined, is that they play upon, and escalate each other. For example, negative thought patterns lead to negative feelings, which leads to more (both in terms of quantity and quality) negative thought patterns, which leads to more negative emotions, etc. And vice versa. So for example, if you can't find your keys to get to work on time, you start getting angry at whoever lost them, by the time you've found them, you're late for work, so now you are more angry. You start thinking what a rotten day this started out to be, so the day continues to get more rotten, you get more angry and upset, and you start thinking that everything is going wrong, so everything starts to go wrong, so.... well, you get the point. They are also dependent upon one another. For example, affirmations are great things, but they probably will not work, if you are just reciting them daily. In order to get them to work for you, you need to repeat them, FEEL them, and probably spend a few minutes meditating on them. They need to be repeated, with feeling, and thought about, until the thought pattern and the emotion changes to support the affirmation. Life was meant to be joyful. So we need to eliminate the negativity from our lives, and only focus on positive and joyful things. We can only do this by learning to release negative thoughts and feelings, not suppressing them and pretending they don't exist, and repatterning our habitual thought patterns from the negative into the positive.
Spiritual Health: Most of us tend to neglect our spiritual health. Sure, lots of us go to church. Then after we get out, we go to the store in all our Sunday finery, and become mean and nasty with that poor clerk at the store who's only making minimum wage. That's not spiritual health, sorry. When we start recognizing our connection to the God-source, and start including that recognition in our daily lives, then we are on our way to spiritual health. Recognize the "god" in you, and the "god" in others. Jesus Christ said that "Ye are gods". Genesis tells us that we are made in God's image, yet we spend our lives making God over into our image, including all our human foibles. We make God jealous, judgmental and the giver of punishments. We need to start re-creating ourselves in God's image, as it was originally meant to be. And that image is light and love.
